"Little Things" now available!
Remember when I shared some of the cinquain poems I've been writing? Well, that grew into a collection of 42 poems!
(The cover of the collection of poems by LK Nesse titled Little Things. A purple background with the title, author's name, and three outlines of star shapes in soft white.)
You can get the collection as both epub and pdf through itch. io, or for the same price from my ko-fi.
The few poems I shared before are included in this collection. Obviously, that's not 42 poems, so what else is in there? Most of them are about things like communication in relationships, frustration when people don't follow directions, love of lakes and oceans, and thoughts about deciding to release
a collection of poems into the world. It starts, though, with explanations of the formats written as poems. For example, here's the explanation of the butterfly cinquain:
Just two
syllables in
the middle will attach
a line of eight to another
line of
eight, which begins counting down to
six again, followed by
four, and two at
the end.
I'll be honest...I'm not expecting a poetry collection to be a big seller. I'd love to be wrong! Especially because I want to encourage people who want to write poetry, but think they can't because they can't do flowery language and deep symbolism. I understand it's not as easy to talk people into trying poetry the way they might be willing to try a romance or sci-fi novel, though. I decided to release Little Things because I don't want to regret not doing it. I don't want to spend the rest of my life telling myself, "You should have done it even if nobody ever bought it!"
I can't say I'm not nervous about it. In fact, some of the poems are about why I write them and how I feel about sending them out into the world. Some are serious, others are silly, and few might be a little bit of both.
