Litany Against Fear Tarot Reading
I promised everyone I would show you how I do a Litany Against Fear tarot reading once I got my Dune Bene Gesserit Tarot Deck, and I'm here to keep that promise! This is a reading I created a couple of years ago to use the Litany Against Fear as a map for analyzing one's own fears. Each line has something assigned to it to look at.
My usual approach to showing how I do this would be to create a temporary imaginary friend who wants a reading. I did this before to give an example of what to expect from a personal three card reading. I never share readings I've done for other people.
There's nothing to stop me from sharing a reading I've done for myself, though, and life has given me a perfect situation for this! My family just found out a few days ago that we're going to have to move. It's unexpected and overwhelming, and nothing is certain yet other than we have to move. There's a lot of fear right now.
I'll show you the cards, then break things down line-by-line and card-by-card. Before we start, I should tell you the names of the suits in this deck. Wands are Spice, Cups are Water, Swords are Crysknives, and Pentacles are Planets.
(Eight tarot cards laid out in two rows with three cards each row, then two more cards below the two rows.)
"I must not fear."
What is the fear you need to explore?
XIII - Death: We were surprised and overwhelmed by finding out we have to move. This is a major change in things, and there's a lot of fear right now about what will happen. We don't know for certain yet that we'll get the place we're looking at that would be about as close to perfect for us as is realistically possible. A place that would allow for a lot of healing to be done. It's not just fear about making the move, but fear about which course things will take and how we'll come through it.
"Fear is the mind-killer."
How is this fear currently affecting you internally?
XXI - The World: It feels like everything is precariously balanced. Like the smallest shift will either mean a future of healing or will destroy everything.
"Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration."
What are the long-term effects of carrying this fear?
Page of Water: Carrying this fear too long will dry my well. It would push me into survival mode, which would put limitations on my communication and creativity. That would harm me, and could potentially harm those I interact with.
"I will face my fear."
What can you start doing now to address this fear?
IX - The Hermit: The situation is already overwhelming, so don't take on more than I have to. I don't have to prove myself to anyone. Handle my responsibilities, keep space for resting, and be honest with myself and others about how I'm doing.
"I will permit it to pass over me and through me."
What do you need to let go of, or let take a back seat, so that you can properly address this fear?
II of Crysknives: This emphasizes the part about not acting like I have to prove myself. Let go of the pride. Let go of the fear of being a problem for other people if I'm not happy and confident all the time. Let myself process my emotions instead of denying them. Ask for help when I need to.
"And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path."
What opportunities for growth does addressing this fear open for you?
XIV - Temperance: I can come through this with a better view of what to do with my future if I learn from the experience instead of denying the fear or letting it take over. It can be a transformation that helps me understand that I have power even when I don't have control over things.
"Where the fear has gone there will be nothing."
What no longer serves you that you have been holding onto? What can addressing this fear clear from your life?
IV of Planets: Wow... Well, obviously, living where we have been no longer serves us! It really stands out that the art on this card is the destruction of the Atreides home on Arrakis. While there is a lot of fear that comes from the move tearing apart stability, a different home can be even more stable. That's especially true when it comes to long-term management of finances.
On a larger scale, the fear doesn't serve me. It's not calling attention to things I can do anything about. There are times when fear gives a needed warning, but this isn't one of those times. Letting fear take over in this situation would do absolutely no good.
"Only I will remain."
What are the long-term effects of dealing with fear in a healthy way?
II of Spice: Recognizing when to pay attention to fear and when to simply accept that it's present - understand it, but don't give it control - makes for better planning and decision making. It can lead to maintaining a healthy level of control in stressful situations. Understanding my fear can even reduce it. It can make me less afraid of breaking down when things get challenging.
I've been excited about having the opportunity to do this reading with this deck! I didn't expect I would ever be able to match cards with the theme of the reading. It's not one of the readings I have available if you pay me for a personal reading, but I think these cards would also go well with the Life Journey reading.
