Checking In
Wow... I really thought I'd have different news to share by now. Being surprised with having to move and finding a new place isn't something we thought would be easy, but we also weren't prepared for just how hard it's turning out to be. Let's take a minute to get caught up on how that's influencing my creative work.
The whole moving thing isn't something I'm really ready to talk much about. The truth is that it has become a traumatic event. Just about the only thing I can accept help with from folks online is handling the costs of all of this. Moving is expensive, and it doesn't help that all of this has caused some complications with a family member's job.
My Ko-fi works as a tip jar if you'd like to help with that.
HOWEVER...
None of what I do is about just getting money. There would be better ways of going about that. So, yes, I will accept tips, but you could buy my books if you're already going over there.
If Ko-fi isn't your thing, there are other options for buying my work. If you're going with Kindle, though, I will tell you that's the place where you cannot get my solo rpg/art journal Art Grimoire.
What is all of this doing to my creative work? Things I don't like, that's for sure. Nearly everything is packed in boxes right now, so I'm glad I kept my kalimba out so that I have at least one musical instrument.
I thought this would be a couple of months off from writing, then working my way back into a regular schedule once the most important unpacking was complete. It turns out I have time to write, but being able to is different. I've been making notes as ideas pop up, but neither of the stories that are whole novels really need me working on them while things are like this.
Poetry, though... My mind approaches poetry in a different way. I had a plan for a a tarot poetry project that just hasn't worked the way I meant for it to. I'm terrible about talking about what I'm working on because there's always the chance that will happen. I end up keeping secrets so nobody gets too attached to an idea that changes too much. Even though my tarot poetry project wasn't going the way I wanted it to, I wasn't just giving up. I really want to write this! What happened is that I changed how I'm using the tarot cards for inspiration for the writing. It's a big enough change to make it a whole different plan, but still tarot and poetry.
Speaking of poetry, I'm going to have to decide at some point how to keep sharing my poetry. I loved Wrizzit, but it turns out it's having to shut down. I may start posting poetry here since I won't be posting it there anymore.
With all of this going on, I need to be knitting and crocheting! That's an important part of self-care for me all of the time, so it's even more important right now. Of course, nearly all of my materials and tools are packed. I've got sock yarn and a bag of tools kept out, though, because I've been working on knitting hexagons for the blanket I'm going to finish someday.
That's how I ended up doing this.
(Crocheted echeveria succulent, vine of three dark green heart shaped leaves, and a bit of wisteria. All crocheted with sock yarns, using 3.75 and 3.5 milimeter hooks.)
My hands have been having trouble with knitting because of the toll everything has been taking on my body, but I can still manage a crochet hook! I'm limited with which yarns are available to me right now, so there are plants I want to crochet that this just isn't the time for. Limitation can also spark creativity. I'm finding out what I can do with what I have.
So that's where I am! It is still my intention to bring back the weekly tarot readings. We're just not there yet.
